Abstract. The article analyses malaphora as a type of mixed metaphor under conditions of multi-paradigmaticity by the material of the English language. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that malaphora is for the first time examined as a special case of phraseological occasionality. The author aims to reveal specificity of malaphora functioning in the linguistic, cognitive and pragmatic aspects. The findings indicate that studying malaphora meaning requires the integrative approach, which includes the frame analysis and the analysis of the cognitive mechanism of focusing and defocusing.
