Multi-Component Terminological Word-Combination as a Meaningful Dominant of the English-Language Technical Text

Submitted: 14.03.2020
Abstract. The article aims to describe a multi-component terminological word-combination as a meaningful dominant of the English-language technical text. Originality of the paper lies in the fact that the word-combinations under study are considered as autonomous units of meaning whose key function includes representing intra-structural conceptual relations. The findings indicate that using the definitional analysis method and the method of logical-gnoseological classification at the pre-translation stage makes it possible to extract implicit meaning of highly specialized multi-component terminological word-combinations and, consequently, to achieve their adequate translation from English into Russian.
Key words and phrases: доминанта, смысловая доминанта, технический текст, многокомпонентное терминологическое словосочетание, эквивалентный перевод, dominant, meaningful dominant, technical text, multi-component terminological word-combination, equivalent translation
