Phraseological Analogue as the Basic Technique to Translate American Literary Phraseologisms (by the Example of the Novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" By Harper Lee)

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal techniques to translate American literary phraseologisms. The study is conducted by the material of the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and its Russian translations conducted by Nora Gal and Raisa Oblonskaya. Among the techniques to translate American literary phraseologisms, the researcher identifies phraseological analogue, analyzes its advantages in comparison with other translation techniques, and herein lies scientific originality of the study. The findings indicate that American literary phraseologisms are almost always translated with the help of phraseological analogues - translation technique to translate non-equivalent linguistic units. This method involves choosing an appropriate Russian phraseological unit with the same figurative meaning based on a different image, which creates special difficulties for translators.
