Abstract. The aim of the research is to describe the content and main features of the category of Incompetence, which functions in various types of discourse in the Russian communicative space. The scientific originality of the research lies in the identification of the mechanism for the realization of the category, leading to the modification of the communicative act and to a change in its situational parameters. As a result, the characteristics of the roles, intentions, goals and referential attitudes of speakers with the status of an authoritative and incompetent participant are given. The ways of overcoming communication barriers and the means of normalizing conflict speech practices by opponents are considered. The dynamic models of the situation objectifying the category of incompetence are presented.
