Abstract. The aim of the research is to study the phonetic system, in particular, the system of vocalism of the Old Tatar language of the XIX century as an integral language system. The scientific originality of the article lies in the fact that for the first time it attempts to describe the phonetic system of the Old Tatar language of the XIX century based on materials from Sufi poetic works, and also compares the spelling norms of the Turkic (Tatar) and Arabic languages in synchronous and diachronic aspects. As a result, it was established that in the language of Sufi works of the XIX century, the spelling norms of the Old Tatar language are generally preserved; variability is observed in T?rkisms in reproducing vowel phonemes. In the course of the study of the factual material, it was revealed that in the language of Sufi works there is an adaptation of Arabic graphemes that reproduce vowel phonemes to the norms of the Tatar language. In Arabic and Persian borrowings, as a rule, the spelling norms of the source language in reproducing vowel phonemes are preserved.
Key words and phrases: фонетическая система, система вокализма, язык поэзии, старотатарский язык, орфографическая норма, phonetic system, system of vocalism, language of poetry, Old Tatar language, spelling norm
