Pragmatic Parameters of Communicative Failures in Russian-Swedish Court Interpreting

Abstract. The study aims to determine the influence of pragmatic factors of linguosemiotics on the occurrence of communicative failures (CF) in court interpreting. The paper considers an example of using the content reframing technique by the sender of a message in Russian and its translation into Swedish. Scientific novelty of the study lies in conducting a comprehensive analysis of the pragmatic aspect of communicative failures in the translation of oral speech involving the use of Swedish and Russian as contact languages. As a result of the study, it has been found that in the pragmatic dimension of semiosis, an explicit CF can occur when the completed interpretation does not display inconsistencies, inaccuracies or grave errors. Timely recognition of the sender’s pragmatic intentions, classifications of expressive means used by the sender and the choice of translation units corresponding to the communicative and pragmatic attitudes of the sender of a text are important for the prevention of CF.
