Interlingual Culturological Lacunas in Political Discourse and Their Elimination during Translation into English

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal techniques to translate interlingual lacunas, i.e. linguistic units nominating notions or phenomena that do not exist in the English language but are relevant in the modern Russian political discourse. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that relying on an analysis of President Putin’s speeches available on www.kremlin.ru and www.en.kremlin.ru, the author identifies culturological lacunas (subjective, textual, cultural) and describes techniques to translate them into English. The research findings are as follows: the author identifies the translation techniques used to eliminate lacunas when translating political texts from Russian into English.
