Abstract. The paper describes methodology to form Master’s degree students’ foreign-language speech skills when teaching professional foreign language on the basis of fiction texts containing modal words. The article proposes a systematized set of tasks based on detective text fragments. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher proposes a four-stage model to form foreign-language speech skills in Master’s degree students of non-linguistic areas, taking into account their professional interests and the required level of foreign-language proficiency. The findings indicate that the proposed methodology promotes formation of Master’s degree students’ lexical competence required for successful intercultural communication.
