Gender-Specific Features of Translating English Literary Texts into Russian

Abstract. The research aims to identify gender-specific features of translating literary works at different levels of the language system. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that the authors have studied how the translator’s gender influences quality of translation into Russian of literary works that have not become an object of such an analysis yet. As a result, it is proved that gender specificity of O. Henry’s stories translations manifests itself at different levels of the language system. Nevertheless, one cannot say that there are some substantial differences regarding translation quality and adequacy which would suggest the gender dimension influence. This influence is mostly noted when carrying out a comparative analysis of certain translation techniques.
Key words and phrases: лингвистическая гендерология, художественное произведение, адекватный перевод, уровни языковой системы, linguistic gender studies, literary work, adequate translation, levels of language system
