Category of Duality in the Kabardino-Circassian Language: Ethno-Specificity, Functioning and Means of Expression

Abstract. The research objectives are as follows: to identify the basic means to transfer semantics of pairness, duality, binarity and reduplication in the Kabardino-Circassian language, to reveal ethno-cultural specificity of the numeral тIу ("two", "pair"). Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in the Adyghe linguistics, the author analyzes the category of duality from the viewpoint of grammar and linguo-culturology. The findings indicate that in the Kabardino-Circassian language, semantics of duality is expressed by lexical means and by means of inflections (prefixes and suffixes).
