Abstract. The research aims to identify the obsolete lexemes representing the concept ТАБЫЛЛЫЫ ‘LUCK’ in the Yakut language. Special attention is paid to the etymology of the lexemes, the meaning of which is revealed only in paired words or set phrases. The research is novel in that it is the first attempt to study the obsolete lexemes of the LUCK concept in Yakut linguoculture. Explanatory dictionaries of the Yakut language, as well as the Mongolian and Manchu-Tungus languages served as the research material. The research findings have shown that the base layer is made up of the lexemes of the concept ТАБЫЛЛЫЫ ‘LUCK’ that are obsolete in the modern Yakut language - дьайаан, талаан, сорсун, сиҥкэннээх, туона, түөрэх кэбис, дьаралык. Etymological studies have found that the lexemes талаан, дьолуо, дьаралык, туона, кумулаах киһи are the original Turkic lexemes of this concept; дьайаан, сарбаһын, сорсун, түөрэх were borrowed from the Mongolian languages; сиҥкэн/силпэн were borrowed from the Manchu-Tungus languages. Based on the large amount of lexical material, it is being proved that the meaning of the lexeme талаан ‘luck’ is fully revealed in set lexical complexes (it is the second component in paired words) found in Olonkho, the heroic epics of the Yakut people.
