Antonymic Opposition "War" - "Peace" as a Method of Speech Impact on the Addressee’s Consciousness in the American Political Discourse (Based on D. J. Trump’s Speeches)

Abstract. This work is dedicated to the antonymic opposition "war" - "peace" as a method of speech impact on the addressee’s consciousness. The aim of the paper is to identify the communicative effect which the representatives of the members of the opposition "war" - "peace" that are co-present in the text of D. Trump’s public speeches in 2017-2020 have on the addressee. The linguistic units studied in the article are considered at two levels - lexical-stylistic and syntactic-stylistic. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the representatives of the opposition "war" - "peace" are analysed as a method of strong influence on the addressee’s consciousness by the material of the American political discourse, namely in D. J. Trump’s rhetoric. As a result of the linguistic analysis, it has been found that the opposition "war" - "peace" has a high influencing potential on the formation of the target audience’s opinion about various components of the political situation.
