Abstract. The aim of the research is to reveal the expressive category of figurativeness in the emotive semantics of neologisms which express people’s negative emotions relating to the coronavirus pandemic. The scientific novelty lies in examining the emotive semantics of coroneologisms through conceptual images that convey fear, anxiety and despair. The results of the study show that there are four groups of images in the basis of coroneologisms formation: images of natural phenomena, images of militaristic activity, images of animals and allusive images as a hint at historic and political facts with a catastrophic effect.
Key words and phrases: коронеологизмы, эмотивность, эмоциональность, оценочность, образность, coroneologisms, emotivity, emotionality, evaluation category, figurativeness
