Abstract. The aim of the article is to determine the features of non-derivative ecological terms formation in two languages with different structures. The scientific novelty lies in a new approach to describing the terminology of ecology: the article is the first to conduct an anthropocentric study of the formal content structure of non-derivative terms in Russian and English. As a result of studying ecological terminology, it has been found for the first time that in the English language the number of lexemes (46.4%) formed by semantic transfer is higher than in Russian. In English terminology, simple word forms formed by conversion are represented by 10.2% of language units. It is proved that non-derivative terms form the core of the term fund of ecology and serve to create other categories of terms - phrases, multicomponent words and abbreviated nominations.
Key words and phrases: непроизводные термины, способ словообразования, экологическая терминология, русский язык, английский язык, non-derivative terms, way of word formation, ecological terminology, Russian language, English language
