Abstract. The aim of the study is to identify the national and cultural specifics of Russian and Chinese connotative mythonyms in a comparative aspect. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the signs and asymmetry of different types of connotative mythonyms in the two languages are characterised and the classification of Russian and Chinese connotative mythonyms according to the assessment grid is made. As a result, it has been proved that connotative mythonyms in the two languages acquire their international characteristic; in Russian, there is a large number of connotative mythoanthroponyms, while in Chinese, the vast majority are connotative theonyms. Connotation is a cultural phenomenon and a way of expressing assessment. According to the positive and negative assessment zones contingent on extralinguistic factors, connotative mythonyms are divided into two subgroups: with an ameliorative assessment and with a pejorative assessment. Such mythonyms can act as a scale for assessing a person’s appearance, character, abilities, activities, relationships between people etc.
Key words and phrases: коннотация, мифоним, интернациональность, пейоративная оценка, мейоративная оценка, connotation, mythonym, internationality, pejorative assessment, ameliorative assessment
