Specifics of the idyllic chronotope in H. L. Wagner’s drama ‘The Child Murderess’

Abstract. The aim of the research is to identify the idyllic component of the chronotope of the drama ‘The Child Murderess’ (1776) by the Sturm und Drang writer Heinrich Leopold Wagner (1747-1779), which determines the originality of his artistic world. Analysing the space-time continuum of the work, the authors examined it from the perspective of the dialectical interaction of idyllic and anti-idyllic components, conceptuality and perceptuality, identified the content of the images of natural elements represented in the drama, varieties of the idyllic chronotope. The paper presents an analysis of researchers’ views on the idyllic chronotope. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in considering the artistic space and time of H. L. Wagner’s drama, which has not been examined before in Russian literary studies. As a result of the research, the authors of the paper have come to the conclusion that the pastoral chronotope demonstrates the ability to transform and deform. There are 4 types of idyllic space in the drama, i.e. idyllic, anti-idyllic, idyllic with anti-idyllic features, anti-idyllic with idyllic features. Idyllic time in H. L. Wagner’s drama is deformed into anti-idyllic time.
