E. V. BELYAVSKY’S "PEDAGOGICAL MEMORIES" AS A SOURCE ON HISTORY OF SCHOOL LITERARY EDUCATION

Abstract. The article examines E. V. Belyavsky’s (1838-1903) "Pedagogical Memories" (1905) as a valuable source on history of school literary education of the pre-October period. Belyavsky’s professional formation as a teacher-philologist is described. His views on the role of Pedagogical Congresses in the development of literature teaching methodology, on the role of essays in students’ ethical and esthetical education are revealed. Belyavsky’s methodological techniques are described.
