On the Problem of Dictionaries Use while Teaching the Russian Language to Elementary Grade Students at the Turn of the XIX-XX Centuries

Abstract. The paper analyses experience of organizing work with dictionaries at elementary school at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The article considers the historical aspect of the problem of dictionaries use at elementary school, traces evolution of methodology of working with dictionaries at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The author considers possibilities of using available positive experience while solving relevant problems of forming students’ lexicographical competence. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher analyses and summarizes pedagogical experience of working with dictionaries at elementary school in the pre-revolutionary period. The research findings are as follows: relying on the analysis of pre-revolutionary textbooks, the author identifies the basic approaches to the problem, reveals the most efficient methods and techniques of working with dictionaries developed by methodologists of that time and outlines prospects for further research.
