The European Compositional Techniques and the Chinese Colour in the Piano Suite "Duo Ye" by Chen Yi

Abstract. The article examines the piano suite "Duo Ye" by the modern Chinese female composer Chen Yi. The research objective includes identifying specificity of the suite’s intonational-rhythmic and stylistic arrangement. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that it is the first Russian-language publication in which the composition is analysed taking into account integration of the Chinese tune and modern compositional techniques. The research findings are as follows: the composer’s techniques of working with folk material are identified, principles of integration of national elements and XX-century compositional techniques are revealed.
