Translation of the English-Language Colourative Vocabulary Taking into Account Structural and Semiotic Peculiarities of Literary Text (by the Material of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Novel "The Great Gatsby")

Abstract. The article examines the problem of colour terms translation by the material of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel "The Great Gatsby" (1925). A comparative analysis of its Russian translations by E. D. Kalashnikova (1965) and N. N. Lavrov (2000) is conducted. The researcher identifies errors in translating colourative vocabulary, suggests translation variants to transfer the shades of colour terms meanings, which were lost. The conclusion is made that difficulties in translating colourative vocabulary arise due to the author’s "recodification" of colour terms.
