Teaching Punctuation in the English-Language Scientific and Technical Text to Master’s Degree Students

Abstract. The paper aims to identify punctuation marks frequently used in scientific and technical texts. Knowing specificity of their usage allows future scientists to arrange the English-language texts taking into account genre and stylistic peculiarities of professional discourse. The research objective also includes development of exercises focused on the formation of students’ punctuation skills. The authors analyse causes and consequences of punctuation mistakes made by the Russian-speaking authors of the English-language scientific texts. Relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that the findings contribute significantly to the methodology of teaching academic writing under the conditions of impetuous development of international cooperation in the sphere of scientific and technical information.
