Abstract. The article examines the modern humorous genre "stand-up comedy", which becomes popular in Russia as a new type of comedy art and is tackled in rare studies within the framework of pragma-linguistics, cognitive linguistics and discursive analysis. The researchers’ attention is focused on analysing the scripts of "live" speeches of famous English-speaking comics with a view to identify the basic pragmatic strategies of their monologues. From the viewpoint of pragma-linguistics, the authors consider the number and types of accentuation signals used in a certain text.
