Meliorative Vocatives in the Russian and Chinese Family Discourses

Abstract. The aim of the research is to reveal lexical-semantic and pragmatic features of meliorative vocatives in the Russian and Chinese family discourses. The study aims to compare the functioning of meliorative vocatives in the Russian and Chinese family discourses. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that the author for the first time provides a comparative-contrastive analysis of the linguistic means representing meliorative vocatives in the Russian and Chinese languages, examines peculiarities of their use in the sphere of family communication. The findings indicate that different types of meliorative vocatives possess different evaluative characteristics and pursue different illocutionary goals. Similarities and differences of meliorative vocatives functioning in the Russian and Chinese languages are revealed.
