Abstract. The article aims at identifying some characteristic linguistic features of argumentation in Russian and English speech. Analysing a number of works on the problem of argumentation the authors have noted that in communication the focus is made on persuasion through arguments, making certain impact on interlocutors and at the same time disproving of other’s opinion. Thus, to achieve their goal in communication the participants will organize and structure their talk using different strategies, tactics, devices, etc. In this regard, it seems interesting to see how effectively a speaker develops their arguments and achieves a positive result. The originality of the research consists in conducting a comparative analysis of stating arguments in different discourses in the English and Russian languages. The authors consider the verbal aspect of speech and reveal its similarities and differences. They describe the linguistic features of the argumentation typical of the Russian and English languages and illustrate them with examples.
