German Verbal-Nominal Combinations: An Attempt at a Typological Description

Abstract. The aim of the study is to give a typological description of the verbal-nominal predicative combinations in the German language, taking into account a wide range of parameters. The article systematizes the functions of these linguistic units in the German language. A list of grammatical and semantic characteristics relevant for the selection of typological groups is determined. An attempt is made to describe the units under study on the basis of the peculiarities of their structure and the grammatical meanings expressed by them. The scientific novelty lies in the involvement of the grammatical semantics of the nominal component as one of the main parameters. As a result, the main structural-semantic types and subtypes of the studied analytical structures in the German language are identified.
