Gender identity and issues of political correctness in Chinese linguoculture against the background of the English and Russian languages

Abstract. The study is conducted on the material of the Chinese, English and Russian languages. The aim of the study is to identify the specifics of political correctness in China in comparison with its understanding in American and Russian cultures, as well as the ways of expressing gender identity by means of the Chinese language. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the notion of “gender identity” in the Chinese language is being considered for the first time in relation to the problem of political correctness, which has not been previously the object of a comprehensive analysis. The results showed that research in the field of gender sociolinguistics in China is based on a dual approach, which can be partly seen in Russian science. At the same time, a non-binary approach to the perception and description of gender is presented in English-language research. The relationship of gender, as one of the main parameters of social identity, with issues of political correctness made it possible for the first time to analyse the ratio of English politically correct linguistic units with their counterparts in Chinese and Russian.
