Exercises for Mastering Means of the English Language by Primary School Children on the Basis of Non-Speech Activities

Abstract. The purpose of the study is to present a series of exercises for mastering phonetic, lexical and grammatical means of foreign language speech in game, creative and cognitive activity of first-form pupils. The article analyses relationship and mutual influence of speech and non-speech activity on primary schoolchildren’s communicative development. The study is focused on working out exercises that ensure actualisation of language and speech material for the purpose of communicative acquisition of a foreign language by children aged 6-7. Scientific novelty lies in developing a series of exercises aimed at formation and development of auditory-articulatory skills, ability to form and formulate independent speech by expanding first-form pupils’ active basic grammar and vocabulary. As a result, the author proposes exercises in non-speech, game and integrated (cognitive) activity that contribute to communicative and cognitive development and formation of the learning and cognitive ability of children aged 6-7.
